Vitaminum B6 Teva is a drug containing vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), which, when converted into its active form, pyridoxal phosphate, participates in many metabolic transformations of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. In addition, it affects the activities of the nervous, hematopoietic and immune systems, as well as the proper functioning of the skin. Vitamin B6 eliminates neuromuscular disorders related to its deficiency. It facilitates the absorption of vitamin B12, iron and magnesium.
Composition
The active substance is pyridoxine hydrochloride ( Pyridoxini hydrochloridum ).
One tablet contains 50 mg of vitamin B6.
Excipients : sucrose, lactose monohydrate, potato starch, magnesium stearate, talc, gelatin.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Adults therapeutically: usually 1 to 2 tablets 3 times a day. Therapeutic children: 25 to 150 mg / day (1 / 2-3) in 2-3 divided doses.
The drug is administered orally, usually as follows:
Adults:
- Therapeutically: most often 50 to 100 mg three times a day.
- Prevention of peripheral neuropathy with isoniazid: 50 mg daily.
- Prevention of sunburn and post-burn skin pigmentation changes: 150 to 200 mg once or in divided doses.
- Metabolic disorders: up to 450 mg daily in 3 divided doses.
- Radiation sickness: 50 to 100 mg daily;
Adjunctively in the treatment of insomnia and vegetative neurosis 50 mg to 300 mg daily, in divided doses.
Action
It affects the activities of the nervous, hematopoietic and immune systems as well as the proper functioning of the skin. It eliminates neuromuscular disorders related to the deficiency, and in higher doses (up to 300 mg per day) it has a central effect (sedative and even hypnotic). It relieves nausea and vomiting. It facilitates the absorption of vitamin B12, iron and magnesium. The active form of vitamin B6 (pyridoxal phosphate) is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
Indications
Vitamin B6 Teva is used in the course of vitamin B6 deficiency and diseases requiring the administration of pyridoxine, such as:
- treatment and prevention of peripheral polyneuropathy,
- taking oral contraceptives,
- malabsorption syndromes (e.g. in liver disease caused by alcoholism),
- sunburn and post-burn skin pigmentation changes (preventive),
- inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes of the mouth (including ulcers in the mouth-acrodynia) and glossitis,
- periodontal disease,
- certain congenital metabolic disorders;
The drug is also used as an auxiliary in the therapy of:
- sideroblastic anemia,
- during nausea and vomiting during pregnancy,
- depressive states;
- insomnia,
- vegetative neurosis (as a mild symptomatic and sedative drug).
Contraindications
Do not use Vitaminum B6 Tev in the case of:
- allergy, hypersensitivity to vitamin B6 or any of the excipients,
- Parkinson’s disease treated with a levodopa preparation without a dopadecarboxylase inhibitor.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Vitaminum B6 Teva can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The use of high doses of vitamin B6 over a long period of time may cause sleep disturbances. Peripheral sensory neuropathy may occur with long-term administration of doses significantly in excess of the recommended therapeutic doses.
Rare cases of allergic and photosensitivity (hypersensitivity) reactions have been reported with an unknown frequency.
The use of pyridoxine in doses of 200 mg for more than a month may lead to the development of dependence syndrome.
Warnings and Precautions
- The drug contains lactose and sucrose. Do not use in the case of intolerance to certain sugars.
- Keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store below 25 ° C.
- Store in a dry place, protected from light.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, and about any medicines you plan to take, including those sold without a prescription.
The drug may interact with:
- levodopa without the decarboxylase inhibitor – a preparation used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, vitamin B6 reduces its absorption,
- amiodarone – if used at the same time, they cause allergy to sunlight.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
During pregnancy, your doctor may prescribe vitamin B6 in a dose of up to 50 mg per day.
Vitamin B6 passes into breast milk, but your doctor may recommend vitamin B6 while you are breastfeeding with special care.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Young children are more sensitive to an overdose of vitamin B6.
In children, vitamin B6 is used therapeutically in the amount of 25 to 150 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses.
Driving and operating machinery
Pyridoxine in a dose above 300 mg a day has a sedative and sleep-inducing effect, so it may then affect psychophysical fitness.
