Contradictions
- Must not be taken:
- if they are hypersensitive (allergic) against potassium citrate or one of the other components.
- if you suffer from diseases that are often associated with an increased potassium content in the blood:
- Reduction of body water (dehydration),
- restricted excretion function of the kidney,
- Sub -renal subfunction (Addison’s disease),
- congenital seizure muscle weakness (Adynamia episodica hereditaria).
dosage
- Always take the preparation exactly according to the instruction. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.
- Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
- The dosage depends on the deficiency to be replaced. In general, 1 – 2 bags (corresponding to 20 – 40 mmol potassium) are sufficient 2 – 3 times a day. No more than 2 bags (corresponding to 40 mmol potassium) at once and not more than 7 bags (corresponding to 140 mmol potassium) a day.
- Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.
- If you have taken a larger amount than you should:
- With an overdose, life -threatening cardiac arrhythmia can occur. Signs of overdose can also be sensations, paralysis and states of confusion. Therefore, contact a doctor immediately when suspected overdose!
- If you forgot to take it:
- Next time, do not take the double dose, but continue treatment with the usual dosage.
Taking

- The intake should be extended to 10-15 minutes and should not be carried out when lying down.
Patient information
- Particular caution when taking it is required,
- in sickle cell anemia,
- with simultaneous treatment with potassium -saving diuretika (drainage agent), aldosterone antagonists, ACE inhibitors, anticholinergics or possibly kidney -damaging medication (non -steroidal anti -inflammatory drugs – inflammatory inhibitors – etc.). By interaction with these drugs, suddenly occurring acidification (acidosis), acute restriction of kidney function or other conditions, too high potassium content in the blood (hyperkalaemia) can occur.
- Before application, electrolyte and acid-base status, the cardiac arrhythm and especially in older patients, are to control kidney function. During the treatment, these parameters must initially be monitored in shorter, later at longer intervals.
- Wateriness and operating machines
- There are no special precautions required.
Pregnancy
- Notes on harmful effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding are not known.
